“KALPANA”

Serial “KALPANA” is now on top rating in D D-1 [National Network], Telecasting Time is 9 P.M. on Every Monday. As per TAM Media Research [India] Pvt Ltd its TVR is 4.22 Top of the Rating in D.D.-1 from his third episode.

KALPANA is a born singer. But Fate conspires to block the flowering of her talent at every turn. She is forced to support her mother and father (an alcoholic) and a younger sister by working as a receptionist in a Five Star Hotel. She is very attractive and therefore has to put up with a fair amount of attention from clients, often of a sexual nature. But her only passion in life is music.

Her father orders her to desist from singing because he believes that “singing in public is only for courtesans”. Inadvertently her rare talent is discovered at a party where she goes to hear ALKA SHIRODKAR, a famous GHAZAL singer. Since the great singer is out of sorts and KALPANA is asked to sing in her stead. KALPANA’S voice sends the audience into raptures. People ignore ALKA SHIRODKAR who leaves the party in a huff. She is humiliated and vows to get even with KALPANA.

KUMAR, the scion of a very rich family is infatuated with KALPANA at first sight and, after wooing her assiduously for a month, proposes to her. KALPANA tells KUMAR about her middle-class background, her passion for singing. But KUMAR loves her to distraction and wants to marry her at all cost. KALPANA’S father and all her friends also insist that she marry KUMAR.

But KUMAR turns out to be a jealous, egotistical, domineering husband. His family, one of the richest in MUMBAI, turns hostile to KALPANA. She is asked to stop singing. KALPANA feels stifled. She cannot live without music. She gives way to depression and inertia. But then something happens to jolt her out of her lassitude. ALKA SHIRODKAR is dying. She has cancer of the esophagus. She sends for KALPANA. Her last exhortation to KALPANA is: “Your talent is a gift from God! Don’t let anyone stifle it. Fight! Win! I am dying. I can no longer sing. But I have a contract to fulfill. Take my place. You are greater than me!” KALPANA is deeply moved.

KALPANA rebels against those who have been stifling her talent. Her father disowns her. Her husband throws her out of the house. Society spits on her. She is left destitute and homeless. To make things worse, she is expecting her first child. She is goaded on to untiring effort by the advice of her GURUJI who tells her: “When you give up your dream, you die!” And so KALPANA decided to fight against all odds. She works untiringly. She takes the city by storm. Her name becomes a household word. She is much in demand and soon acquires a flat, a car, money, fame and power. It is during the last concert that her water bag bursts. She has to be taken to hospital where, in the early hours of the morning, she gives birth to a baby girl.

There are flowers and bouquets. People throng to wish her well and congratulate her.

Among those who come are the people who have disowned her – KUMAR, his parents, and her own father. They have come to take her home. But does she have any need for them now?
